Ingredients

  • 1
    Large Egg
    1 large egg
  • 2
    Butter or Oil
1/2 teaspoon butter or cooking oil (e.g., vegetable, canola)
  • 3
    Salt
    Pinch of salt
  • 4
    Black Pepper
    Pinch of black pepper
  • 5
    Optional: Egg Ring
Metal or silicone egg ring (for a perfectly round egg)

Instructions

  1. 1

    1. Heat the Griddle: Preheat your electric griddle to medium heat (around 160-175°C or 325-350°F). If using a stovetop griddle, place it over medium heat until a drop of water sizzles and evaporates quickly.

  2. 2

    2. Grease the Griddle: Once hot, add 1/2 teaspoon of butter or cooking oil to the griddle. Spread it evenly over the cooking surface. If using an egg ring, place it on the griddle and lightly grease the inside of the ring as well.

  3. 3

    3. Cook the Egg: Carefully crack the egg directly onto the greased griddle surface, or into the center of the greased egg ring. Immediately season with a pinch of salt and black pepper.

  4. 4

    4. Cook to Desired Doneness:

  5. 5

    - Sunny-Side Up: Cook for 2-3 minutes, or until the whites are fully set and opaque but the yolk remains completely runny. Do not flip.

  6. 6

    - Over Easy: Cook for 2-3 minutes until whites are set, then gently flip and cook for another 15-30 seconds. The yolk should still be very runny.

  7. 7

    - Over Medium: Cook for 2-3 minutes until whites are set, then gently flip and cook for 30-60 seconds. The yolk should be jammy and slightly runny in the center.

  8. 8

    - Over Hard: Cook for 2-3 minutes until whites are set, then gently flip and cook for 1-2 minutes longer, breaking the yolk if desired, until it is completely firm.

  9. 9

    5. Serve: Once cooked to your preference, carefully remove the griddle egg with a spatula. Serve immediately on toast, a breakfast sandwich, with bacon, sausage, or potatoes.
